Round, brass colored award medal. Obverse has raised bust image of man in center with raised wording around the edge "THE HUMANE SOCIETY Of The United States" and "THE JOSEPH WOOD KRUTCH MEDAL." The reverse side has the raised image of a tree in the center with head of a cat, horse, and dog on the proper right side and the head of a lion, head of a canine, body of a bird, and body of a seal on the proper left side. There is raised wording around the outer edge "FOR SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TOWARD THE IMPROVEMENT OF LIFE AND THE ENVIRONMENT." Engraved wording centered at the bottom "WILD HORSE ANNIE JOHNSTON / 1972."
