Alice Walton Cowgirl Park, established in 2019, was created from both necessity and passion. The vision was to design a beautiful, welcoming space for visitors to the area and nearby Dickies Arena. Bringing that vision to life was a dedicated group of friends who united to fund the project and honor a remarkable woman — Alice Walton — whose generosity has supported countless initiatives and enriched the city of Fort Worth. Walton has long been a supporter of the National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame. She has been recognized as both the 2007 Fern Sawyer Award recipient and 2025 Gloria Lupton Tennison Pioneer Award.
At the heart of the park stands the Museum’s Sergeant Reckless statue, a powerful tribute to the decorated war horse and true American hero. The bronze sculpture, prominently displayed atop the monument sign, captures the spirit and legacy of this extraordinary animal. In conjunction with the statue’s installation, the inaugural Sergeant Reckless Award was presented in 2019 to Robin Hutton, whose efforts helped bring national recognition to Sergeant Reckless’s story.
The park also features several notable sculptures, including Horse of the Year, showcasing Boon San Sally and Boon San Kitty, along with Royal Blue Boon and Little Badger Dulce. Visitors will also find the beloved dog sculpture, My Best Friend Good Friday Walton, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the space.
Enhancing the park’s visual appeal is a stunning mosaic mural created by Evergreen and the Mellini family artisans of Italy. Depicting a tooled western saddle, the artwork is composed of tens of thousands of hand-placed glass pieces, forming a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. This intricate mosaic not only serves as a striking backdrop but also offers a perfect photo opportunity for visitors.
