Camilla Naprous

United KingdomInducted 2018

Born in 1986, Camilla Naprous grew up in the entertainment industry working with horses. She first performed with her family’s stunt team, The Devil’s Horsemen, when she was only 8 years old, Roman riding her two ponies at Wembley Arena in London for an audience of ten thousand. She spent her teenage years travelling across Europe, trick riding, training horses, and becoming an exceptionally accomplished rider. Naprous was only nineteen when she first ran her own department on the film set for The Other Boleyn Girl with Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson. This made her one of the youngest horsemasters in the film industry.  Since then, Naprous has worked tirelessly to establish an indomitable reputation and earn respect as a woman in one of the most male-dominated industries on earth. Her extensive list of film credits includes some of the biggest box office hits of the last decade. She has trained a myriad of actors, including Gal Gadot, Emma Stone, Saoirse Ronan, Angelina Jolie, Rachel Weisz, Carey Mulligan, Robin Wright, Michael Fassbender, Emilia Clark, Olivia Coleman, Chris Pine, Channing Tatum, and Madonna. She builds intimate working relationships with the actors, helping them to develop their characters’ relationship with the horses. She has a passion for teaching and through her process, she imparts equestrian skills, confidence, trust, and encourages a unique bond between the horse and rider. Since she was 24 years old, Naprous has served as the horsemaster on the acclaimed, multiple award-winning HBO series Game of Thrones for all eight seasons. Together with the stunt coordinator, she has designed and choreographed ambitious battle scenes unlike any ever filmed for a television series , including high speed sequences involving hundreds of galloping horses, horse falls, and stunt-riding. These daring sequences require intense precision because the camera department, actors, and directors are all in close proximity to the horses. Her equine scenes on this show now rival the scope usually reserved for the big screen. Naprous runs The Devil’s Horsemen, the family-owned company that provides horses, carriages, tack, riders, and horsemasters to international films, television programs, and photo shoots. Their horses have graced the pages of Vogue, Vanity Fair, and W Magazine. The company is often overseeing up to seven film productions at a time with world renowned production companies including Disney, Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, HBO, Netflix, Fox Broadcasting, and Working Title Films. From major motion pictures, such as The Outlaw King to the addictive, gritty series Peaky Blinders, The Devil’s Horsemen provide the highest quality in equine services, as is demanded in the industry. In 2017, the company worked on 26 film productions in one year. As a businesswoman and an artist, she works in dual roles, managing business relationships with producers and creative relationships with directors. In the last decade, Naprous has turned The Devil’s Horsemen into one of the leading film-industry horse suppliers in the world. She worked as horsemaster on the record-breaking blockbuster Wonder Woman and its sequel, also serving as a rider in the dramatic battle scenes. Between filming blockbusters, Naprous writes and choreographs live performances at The Devil’s Horsemen’s equestrian theatre at Wychwood Stud in England. Her elite team of riders has worked together for decades, drawing on expertise from equestrian disciplines such as carriage driving, show jumping, racing, eventing, classical dressage, and trick riding. Always a horse advocate, in business and pleasure, Naprous has rescued horses on their way to slaughter – and brought them home to live out their lives either resting or working at The Devil’s Horseman.
